Zanzibar

Island and Beach Escape

About Zanzibar

White-sand beaches, historic Stone Town, spice farms, dhow cruises and the lively Forodhani night market.

Zanzibar is an island archipelago in the Indian Ocean, a short flight from the mainland. It combines white-sand beaches, clear water, spice farms and the historic streets of Stone Town.

Wildlife

Highlights are the red colobus monkeys of Jozani Forest, dolphins on the south coast, giant tortoises on Prison Island and the marine life of the reefs.

Best time to visit

June to October and December to February are the driest, most pleasant months. The coast is best avoided during the heavy rains from March to May.

Where to stay

Choose from simple guesthouses, boutique hotels and beach resorts. The right coast depends on the kind of stay you want: see our Zanzibar section for the main areas.
