About Lake Manyara

Known for its tree-climbing lions and pink flamingos, with groundwater forest, baobab cliffs and more than 400 recorded bird species.

Lake Manyara National Park is a compact park squeezed between the Great Rift Valley escarpment and a shallow soda lake. Within a few hours you pass groundwater forest, open grassland, acacia woodland and the lake shore.

Wildlife

The park is known for its tree-climbing lions, large baboon troops, hippos, elephants, giraffe and, in season, flamingos and other water birds. More than 400 bird species have been recorded.

Best time to visit

The park can be visited all year. The dry months from June to October are best for game viewing, while the wetter months from November to May are good for birds and flamingos.

Lodges and camps sit on the escarpment above the lake, in the park and in the nearby villages.

How to get there
