A Safari from the Sky
Indulge in a Hot Air Balloon Safari in Serengeti to create everlasting memories. Elevate your special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, marriage proposals, or ceremonies with a Sky Safari.
The Balloon Team will pick you up from your camp/lodge early in the morning (between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m.) to arrive at the launch area by 6 a.m., giving you enough time to enjoy some hot Tanzanian coffee with homemade cookies and access to free Wi-Fi. During this time, the Pilot will provide you with a safety briefing, launch and landing procedures, signing the waiver form, and what to expect. We plan to take off at around 6:30 a.m., subject to weather conditions. The basket is on its side while you board and will stand upright just before taking off.
During A Safari from the Sky, you will have an uninterrupted bird’s eye view of the vast plains of Serengeti, and you will understand why they call it endless plains. The pilot will try to spot wildlife for you and lower the balloon for better viewing. The flight usually lasts for about an hour, with the possibility of extending it by 15 minutes depending on the weather.
Experience the breathtaking beauty of the Serengeti National Park on a once-in-a-lifetime hot air balloon flight. At dawn, rise as the sun greets the day and float in whichever direction the winds of the morning take you. Your pilot can precisely control the altitude of your balloon: sometimes flying at treetop height, sometimes lower, offering a unique perspective and great photographic opportunities of the wildlife below.
Once you disembark, you will enjoy a champagne celebration with a little history of how the tradition came to be. After this, you will be driven to our carefully selected bush breakfast area, warmly welcomed by our team to enjoy a scrumptious plated breakfast. Be sure to give us any dietary requirements beforehand so we can cater to you. After your breakfast, you will be issued your certificates and then returned to the Visitors Centre or nearest airstrip to meet up with your guide to continue with your safari program.
In case of unfavorable weather conditions, the balloon safari may be rescheduled to another day for your convenience and safety. Each trip is guided by a licensed pilot and a big team to handle the preparations of the hot-air balloon. Note that children are permitted from age seven and above.
The ideal time for a hot-air balloon safari in the Serengeti is during the dry season (June to October). During the rainy months (March, April & May), some balloon rides are still available, but the actual flight is more dependent on weather conditions. The balloon ride is definitely worth the price, costing around 550 USD, which includes the ride, transfers, and champagne bush breakfast after the landing. Vegetarian options are available.
Please note that the Serengeti balloon safari is exclusively offered as part of a complete itinerary and cannot be reserved independently, as the flight occurs within Serengeti National Park. However, if you are currently accommodated in central Serengeti, there may be a possibility to book the balloon safari as a standalone activity.
